Port Stephens Cultural Plan

Council recognises and values the role that culture plays in helping to create vibrant and healthy communities and the Port Stephens Cultural Plan 2015–2018 clearly articulates Council's commitment to ensuring access and participation in local cultural activity.

The plan recognises Council's role as a facilitator and enabler of local cultural development and activity by way of planning, connecting people, administration and access to venues and cultural places, providing small grants and promotion. In the case of public libraries Council is a cultural provider.

At the core of Council's involvement in cultural business are the arts and creativity, Aboriginal culture, heritage and history, architecture and design, festivals and events.

For locals and visitors to Port Stephens the opportunity to participate in, learn from and be entertained by a broad range of cultural activity and opportunity all year round is a well-kept secret that is slowly being unearthed. This is all due to a range of community groups and cultural enterprises, many driven by the passion and commitment of volunteers, who ensure the diversity of cultural activity in our community, remains strong.

To find out more about many of these groups visit the community directory.
