Nelson Bay beaches from the marina to Fly Point will remain closed Friday 15 January after a sewage leak. We are currently waiting on water quality test results to determine when it’s safe to reopen the beaches. The community is advised to avoid swimming in the area.
During excavation works on Monday 11 January at Teramby Road, Nelson Bay a sewage main was damaged and began leaking into the harbour.
The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA), NSW Ministry of Health, SafeWork NSW and Fire & Rescue NSW were notified.
We recommend swimming at one of our many other beaches, including patrolled beaches at Fingal Beach, One Mile Beach and Birubi Beach.
