ABOUT THIS FORM
Roadside signage is provided to assist and guide road users to things such as community facilities, accommodation, local attractions and visitor services. This type of signage is for direction and information only, not for promotion or advertising. Signage has been standardised to provide clear and consistent information to road users which is outlined in Australian Standard AS1742.6. This ensures signage within the road reserve is safe, efficient and effective for all road users.
Council are responsible for approving and monitoring signage in the road reserve. This application form has been prepared to assist you in applying for the appropriate type of sign for your facility or service. It will guide you through the documentation and any additional approvals which are required to be submitted for assessment and provide examples throughout.
You can use this application to apply for the following roadside signage:
- Facility, Service and Accommodation Signs (Blue) - not to be used for advertising purposes, therefore individual business names are not permitted.
APPLICATION PROCESS
1. Lodge Application: Complete and submit this application form.
2. Assessment: Council will consider and respond to a completed application within 7 days of receiving the application. Once approved, a quote will be sourced and forwarded to the applicant to be accepted or declined.
3. Acceptance of Quote: The manufacture and installation process will commence as soon as the quote is accepted in writing and payment is received. The installation will take between 4 to 6 weeks from receipt of payment.
4. Installation of the Sign: Council does not permit the installation of signs by persons other than those working for or contracted by the Road Authority.
5. Ownership of the Sign: Signs located in the road reservation belong to the Road Authority which in most cases will be Council.
MAINTENANCE OF THE SIGN
The applicant or benefitting party is responsible for all costs relating to the sign's lifecycle including but not limited to its design, purchase, installation, maintenance and replacement. Signs should be designed to meet a minimum service life of ten (10) years. Where a sign has been in place for longer than 10 years and/or where it has deteriorated to a level unacceptable to Council, whether naturally or otherwise, the sign must be replaced at the benefitting party cost.
