Local youth showcase talent at Live @ The Alley

Port Stephens Council held an online virtual youth event last night at the Naked Alley Café — sharing the talents of our local youth, interviews and information on resources for young people in our region.

The event held by and for the young people of Port Stephens also gave a platform for our local budding filmmakers, songwriters and musicians to create and share their home-grown stories of connection.

During the event, Mayor Ryan Palmer announced the winners of our recent youth song competition which were streamed during the night. A big congratulations to the winners — Alex Hall for his piano cover of High Hopes originally performed by Panic! at the Disco and Joshua Serrao for his original song Dancing with a Smile of Sorrow.

With more than 10,000 youth aged between 12 to 24 years living in Port Stephens (2016 Census) — the Live @ The Alley event aimed to address key areas from our new Youth Plan currently in development. The plan is designed to address:

  • participation of young people in their community
  • their aspirations for the future
  • creating safe, innovative spaces and places for young people.
