Local Government Week celebrates the power of community

Celebrating The Power of Community, Port Stephens Council is proud to mark Local Government Week 2018 from today. An annual celebration, the week aims to promote the importance of councils to all residents, ratepayers and businesses.

Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer says Council works to support the whole community through a range of services.

“Port Stephens Council has an amazing array of services that we deliver to the community; we have 63 individual business units that work on behalf of the community – everything from cat registrations through to development approvals.

“Our community satisfaction is at 85% which is nearly unheard of in the local government sector, and this result shows we are on the right track in delivering those services.

“We’re currently going out to the community to seek their feedback on a Special Rate Variation to deliver more infrastructure, better services and create new jobs – all of which our community have told us they want.

“These are things we simply could not deliver as Council without a Special Rate Variation, so it’s time we do have a serious conversation about it, because this is about the future of Port Stephens,” Mayor Palmer said.

Running from today to Sunday 5 August 2018, Local Government Week provides an opportunity to promote the importance of councils to the community.
