Last week to have a say on proposed Special Rate Variation
Port Stephens residents have an extra week to have their say on a proposed Special Rate Variation (SRV), with community consultation now ending this Friday 31 August 2018.
Mayor Ryan Palmer says after listening to community feedback, Council has extended the consultation period to give residents more time to consider whether they support the proposal.
“Over the past year as Mayor, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with many people right across our community. Whether it’s at a café, a sports field, or at an event, the message I keep hearing from members of our community is that Port Stephens needs and deserves more,” Mayor Palmer said.
“People want better roads, more paths and cycleways, improved drainage and rejuvenated town centres – and this Council wants to deliver. But we can’t do it without more funding, which is why Council is asking our community if they would be willing to pay more to fund these improvements.
“For the past five weeks, we’ve held more than 20 community feedback sessions to find out what our residents and businesses think, and the response has been encouraging.
“If you haven’t already, I’d encourage all residents to head to our website and have your say on the proposal,” he said.
All members of the community are invited to provide feedback on the proposed SRV via a formal submission. For more information and to have your say, visit portstephens.nsw.gov.au/srv
