Planning is underway for potential future improvements in Nelson Bay and Shoal Bay. The next step for these investigations is to undertake traffic counts in the area.

Mid-block traffic counts will be carried out using automatic tube count technology in 22 locations in Nelson Bay and Shoal Bay. These investigations will be undertaken continuously from Thursday 5 September and we expect to complete the traffic counts in seven days and nights, weather permitting.

Intersection counts, origin destination surveys and travel time surveys will be carried out using video camera footage, GPS records and travel time dash camera videos in Nelson Bay and Shoal Bay. These investigations will be carried out during peak periods, from 6am to 10am and from 2pm to 6pm, on weekdays from Thursday 5 September. We expect to complete these investigations in one day at each location, weather permitting.
