Thank you to the volunteers of Port Stephens

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, Port Stephens Council is shining a light on the many volunteers who contribute to the local community.

National Volunteer Week runs from 21-27 May 2018 and is an opportunity to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation’s volunteers.

With over 700 in number, Port Stephens Council’s volunteers dedicate their time and effort for the benefit of their community, culture, economy and environment.

Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer says this year’s theme ‘give a little, change a lot’ recognises how much volunteers contribute.

“We’re lucky in Port Stephens to have so many dedicated volunteers who are passionate about giving back and helping their local community,” Mayor Palmer said.

“Volunteers are the lifeblood of our community, and I’d like to thank each and every one of them for the work they do week-in, week-out,” he said.

“This year’s theme shows that by just giving a little of their time, volunteers make the world of difference to the whole community of Port Stephens.”

Council’s Volunteers Coordinator, Melinda Anderson, says there are a range of opportunities available for anyone that is interested in becoming a volunteer.

“Our volunteers assist at our libraries and Visitor Information Centre; work in advisory roles as part of our cultural and heritage committees; help manage halls, parks and reserves; as well as care for our natural bushland areas,” she said.

"There really is something to suit everyone and Council aims to empower all of our volunteers with the resources and training to be the best they can be.”
