Success Street to be permanently closed

As a result of community consultation, the intersection of Success Street and Lemon Tree Passage Road in Tanilba Bay will be permanently closed to traffic as of Monday 21 May 2018.

Motorists will still be able to access Success Street via President Wilson Walk.

The decision to close the road was made after consultation with residents on the design of the new roundabout at the intersection of Lemon Tree Passage Road and Avenue of the Allies.

Rick Mackenzie, Council’s Civil Projects Engineer, says the decision will help improve safety for motorists and residents.

“While discussing the design of the new roundabout with the community, it was suggested that closing the intersection of Success Street and Lemon Tree Passage Road may be a better option,” Mr Mackenzie said.

“It was agreed that closing Success Street would reduce through-vehicle traffic to make it safer for residents and motorists.

“Plus, it also means that less vegetation adjacent to Raf Park needs to be removed, as Success Street no longer needs to be realigned to join up to Lemon Tree Passage Road.

“The intersection of Success Street and Lemon Tree Passage Road will be closed during construction of the roundabout, and will remain permanently closed after construction is complete.

“It’s great to see Council and the community working together to get the best outcome for local residents,” he added.

Mr Mackenzie says that construction of the new roundabout at Lemon Tree Passage Road is now underway.

“The construction of the new roundabout at Lemon Tree Passage Road is progressing well and is expected to be completed by early August, depending on the weather.

“I want to thank motorists for their patience during the construction period,” he said.
