Port’s parks and playgrounds reopen as COVID-19 restrictions ease
Following the NSW Government’s decision to ease COVID-19 public health orders, Port Stephens Council will reopen many outdoor recreational facilities from Friday 15 May 2020.
General Manager Wayne Wallis says the changes will allow the community to enjoy parks and amenities once more but social distancing restrictions still apply.
“It’s so important to be able to get outside and play, exercise or just enjoy the outdoors for both physical and mental health. That’s why from Friday, we’ll be reopening parks, playgrounds, skate parks, fenced dog parks and outdoor exercise equipment to our community.
“However, this is not the time to be complacent. As NSW begins to take more steps to reopen, it’s more important than ever to abide by the public health orders, maintain physical distancing, wash your hands regularly and stay at home if you have any symptoms at all,” he said.
Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer says it’s a positive first step for the Port Stephens community.
“The measures put in place in late March to prevent public gatherings and encourage travellers to stay at home were critical to helping stop the spread of COVID-19 in Port Stephens,” Mayor Palmer said.
“Thanks to the hard work of our healthcare workers and to every single person who stayed home and did their part, we’re now in a position to take the first steps to easing restrictions and restarting Port Stephens,” he said.
As restrictions ease, we’ll continue to keep our community informed on any changes to facilities and services via regular updates on our website, social media, email and public notices.
