Permit suspension lifted due to easing conditions in Lower Hunter

Due to recent rainfall over the last week, the Lower Hunter RFS has made a decision to lift the suspension of permits.

Across the Lower Hunter District (Maitland, Cessnock, Dungog and Port Stephens LGAs) the drought index (KBDI) has dropped to below the average of 90 for the first time this year. For residents in these areas we are allowing permits to be issued by their local brigades to assist in removing hazards from your property. Permit holders are reminded of the following stipulations:

  • Council policy and restrictions MUST be adhered to in the LGA. Failure to comply may result in a warning letter or infringement notice being served.
  • Notification of neighbours and Fire Control is mandatory at least 24 hours before lighting. Failure to do so may result in a warning letter or infringement notice being issued. Permit holders can notify the Fire control on 1800 890 533.
  • Permits are available for a maximum of 21 days.

Permits are automatically suspended when a Fire Danger Rating (FDR) of Very High or above is reached.

Please contact your local Fire Control Centre or your local brigade if you require a permit.
