New playground for Shoal Bay attracts State Government support
Port Stephens Council has committed $120,000 to building a new playground at Shoal Bay to enable children of all abilities to play together. Designed specifically to encourage interaction between children, families and friends; yesterday afternoon the State Government announced $12,000 in NSW Government funding to fence the playground, ensuring safety for all children.
Port Stephen’s Mayor Ryan Palmer says it’s important for families to have access to these types of facilities in the local area:
“We live in such a picturesque part of the coast, and having the opportunity to take your kids outside to play is so important to parents in our area. This is something which children of all abilities should be able to enjoy, and with its inclusive design and integrated equipment this playground will do just that,” Mayor Palmer said.
Responsible for bringing the notice of motion seeking State Government funding to further enhance Council’s plans for the playground, Councillor Jaimie Abbott says it’s great to see State investment in Port Stephens:
“Thanks to the investment of the Berejiklian State Government the new playground will also be fully fenced – seeing families able to enjoy time together in a safe environment in our great outdoors,” Cr Abbott said.
Incorporating three swings, climbing equipment, a net carousel, balancing rope and nature play areas, the new playground also includes bespoke adventure themed play equipment featuring a bushwood balance walk, tube slide and spider net. Located at Bernie Thompson Reserve, works are expected to be complete by August, subject to weather conditions.
