New blueprint for City’s economic growth
Port Stephens Council has built on existing strategy to set the blueprint for a collaborative approach to the delivery of a vibrant and liveable place supporting economic growth.
Last week, Council adopted the Economic Development Strategy 2021-2025, providing a framework for the delivery of actions supporting recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and facilitate the strategic growth of innovative and successful business.
Group Manager Development Services Steven Peart said Councils day to day operations play a key role in creating an environment that attracts investment and encourages business to thrive.
“Many services we deliver such as land use planning, public space design and the purchase of goods and services all contribute to creating the foundations of a strong and resilient economy,” Mr Peart said.
The strategy has been developed with extensive community input including targeted conversations with businesses and business leaders.
“Partnerships with business, State and Federal agencies, industry organisations and neighbouring councils are key to the growth of our economy and this plans success,” he added.
Strategy and Environment Section Manager Brock Lamont says we want to build on our existing strengths and opportunities as we move forward, making Port Stephens a place where businesses can grow and thrive.
“We know the community and business are looking for a focus on reducing red tape, activating places, COVID recovery support and encouraging local spending in the short term,” Mr Lamont said.
“We will be looking to provide incentives, tools, strategies and support to foster diversity, growth, innovation and resilience,” he added.
The Economic Development Strategy 2021-2025 highlights key priorities of attracting investments, advocating for infrastructure to support economic growth, building strong industry networks, supporting development of local supply chains and making Port Stephens an attractive place to live.
