Mayor to seek alternate funding for sporting complex

Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer has put on hold plans to sell a parcel of operational land at 109 Foreshore Drive, Salamander Bay to allow consideration of other funding options for the Tomaree Sports Complex Masterplan.

“I’ve listened to the community’s feedback and decided to withdraw the Notice of Motion on the sale of 109 Foreshore Drive whilst we explore other funding options for the Tomaree Sports Complex Masterplan,” Mayor Palmer said.

“I’m still very much committed to funding infrastructure, sporting or otherwise, in Port Stephens. But it’s important that we listen to the community and look at other ways to deliver these important projects.

“There is greater demand than ever to provide new infrastructure and upgrade existing facilities and services to meet our community’s needs.

“As Mayor, I’m prepared to be innovative in the way we do that, but not at any expense. It’s important to retain the absolute confidence of the people of Port Stephens.

“I’m hopeful we can take the community with us as we look to invest in our region. We know what it is they see as priorities, it’s now our job as Council to focus on delivery,” he said.
