Knights to hold open training session in Nelson Bay
The Newcastle Knights will show off their skills to the Port Stephens community at an open training session in Nelson Bay on Friday 2 March 2018.
The session is part of the Knights’ three-day training camp at Nelson Bay, where the team will take advantage of the sun, surf and quality playing fields of Port Stephens in the lead up to the 2018 season.
Mayor Ryan Palmer says it’s a fantastic opportunity for Knights fans of Port Stephens to come out and support their team.
“It’s great to see our local teams coming up and getting to know the Port Stephens community. A month ago, we welcomed the Newcastle Jets to our pitches and now we’re ecstatic to host the Knights in Nelson Bay,” Mayor Palmer said.
“It will be great to host the boys in our beautiful part of the world in the countdown to their highly anticipated 2018 season,” he said.
“As a huge Knights fan myself, I’m excited to see the team in action up close and I encourage everyone to come out and support the team on Friday,” he added.
Brock Lamont, Council’s Community and Recreation Coordinator, says the visit is an endorsement of the facilities on offer in Port Stephens.
“Port Stephens is known for its quality sporting infrastructure, and Council is proud to have attracted some of the State's premier sporting events in recent years,” Mr Lamont said.
“Having our two representative teams come to Port Stephens to train on our pitches and use our facilities is a great endorsement of their quality.
“It’s a great opportunity for locals and visitors to get out and see the Knights in action ahead of the new season,” he said.
The Newcastle Knights will hold a three-day training camp in Nelson Bay from Wednesday 28 February, with an open training session for fans from 10am Friday 2 March 2018 at Tomaree Sports Complex’s Match Field 1.
