The closure has been deemed necessary to reduce the risk of beachgoers being injured by vehicles or boats during the peak school holiday period. Access will continue to be provided to emergency services and commercial fishermen.

Council operated boat ramps at Shoal Bay, Little Beach, Salamander Bay and Soldiers Point, as well as beach access boat ramps at Boat Harbour and Fisherman's Bay, will remain open.
