Diving into vital pool maintenance as cooler weather sets in

After a successful summer season, Port Stephens aquatic centres will be temporarily closed in a staggered schedule for vital maintenance works over the winter months.

Lakeside, Tilligerry and Tomaree aquatic centres undergo essential maintenance works each year to ensure the facilities are ready when crowds dive into the summer swimming season.

Ian Crawford, Council's Contract and Services Coordinator, says the works have been staggered to ensure at least one facility is available to accommodate year-round pool users.

"Our aquatic centres are well-used and as with any asset, they require a little TLC to keep them at the standard our community expects," Mr Crawford said.

"The scope of work generally involves replacement and re-grouting of tiles, cleaning the pool floor, painting, essential plant maintenance and general maintenance.”

Mr Crawford says Port Stephens aquatic centre members can visit alternative pools while their favourite centre is closed.

“We encourage the community to maintain their health and fitness levels through this period by utilising the other aquatic facilities when their local pool is closed for maintenance,” he said.

"We’re mindful that people use the year-round aquatic facilities in Port Stephens for a range of reasons, so the team has taken great care with the scheduling of these essential works to try and minimise disruption," he added.

"We thank the community in advance for their understanding and cooperation during this period."

Timetable for closures:

  • Tilligerry Aquatic Centre – closed from 4 June to 5 August
  • Lakeside Leisure Centre – closed from 9 July to 22 July
  • Tomaree Aquatic Centre – closed from 23 July to 19 August
