Celebrating Australia Day across Port Stephens

Port Stephens will be buzzing with community pride this Australia Day, with a packed program of free, family-friendly activities to celebrate all that makes Port great.

Festivities will be held at four locations across Port Stephens, including Raymond Terrace, Nelson Bay, Lemon Tree Passage and Karuah, with food, fireworks, markets, music and lots of fun in store.

Port Stephens Council is partnering with the Rotary Club of Raymond Terrace to host a family fun day at Riverside Park, which will start at 8am with a free barbecue breakfast supported again this year by Raymond Terrace Bowling Club and cooked by Rotary and the Lions Club of Raymond Terrace.

Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer will preside over the official ceremony on The Mutual Stage at 9am with the presentation of the prestigious Port Stephens Annual Awards, including Citizen of the Year.

Australia Day Ambassador Peter McLean, Chief Executive Officer of the Can Too Foundation and former CEO of Keep Australia Beautiful, will deliver the Australia Day address in Raymond Terrace and Nelson Bay.

Peter McLean says it’s an honour to celebrate Australia Day with the people of Port Stephens.

“Throughout my career I’ve been very privileged to work with, assist and support so many valuable causes. It’s my passion to see people, towns and communities thrive.

“That’s why I’m really looking forward to spending Australia Day in Port Stephens - it’s full of people who care deeply about their community and want to see it prosper.

Mayor Palmer says this Australia Day, the focus will be on celebrating as a community.

“Everyone who calls Port Stephens home has a unique and important story to tell, whether they were born here, or whether they chose to make this their home.

“Australia Day is an opportunity to reflect on how lucky we are here in Port Stephens and to celebrate all of the people that make this such a fantastic community to be a part of,” he said.

Mayor Palmer says there will be full program of activities for the whole family to enjoy, right across the region.

“It's the perfect opportunity to enjoy a fun summer's day out for the whole family – and best of all, most activities are free.

“With a RAAF flyover, speed boat demonstrations, live music, markets, rides, vintage cars, and loads of animals including Hamish the Llama, there’s certainly something for everyone,” he said.

"The celebrations in Raymond Terrace wouldn’t be possible without the Raymond Terrace Bowling Club and The Mutual, so I must thank them for their continued support," he said.
