Calling all creatives! Help shape the future of the arts in Port Stephens
Artists, writers, performers and creatives are invited to help shape the future of the arts in Port Stephens by joining Council’s Strategic Arts Committee.
Council is currently calling for Expressions of Interest from local residents who want to support the development of cultural and artistic programs across Port Stephens as part of the Strategic Arts 355c Committee.
Acting Community Development and Engagement Coordinator Liz Akerman says this is a great opportunity for creatives to help support the arts in Port Stephens.
“The arts are alive and well in Port Stephens, thanks to a diverse range of professional and community artists who are busy creating opportunities for local residents.
“We’re now looking for fresh ideas and perspectives on how we can best support the arts and help develop the creative industries in Port Stephens into the future.
“As a member of the Strategic Arts Committee, you would have the opportunity to help advocate for and promote the Cultural Projects fund, which provides much-needed funding to local community driven initiatives.
“Just this year, Council contributed $60,000 to local cultural projects, including visual artists, glass artists, writers, performers, singers and musicians, cartoonists and animators. We’re now seeing workshops and local events springing up across the community as a result of this funding.
“Members could also be asked to provide advice on public art, and to build relationships with other community members interested in local cultural development,” she said.
The next meeting of the Strategic Arts Committee will be held at 5:30pm Thursday 13 September at Raymond Terrace Library.
Anyone interested in joining the Strategic Arts Committee should contact the Community Development and Engagement Team on 49880 255 or send an email to james.campbell@portstephens.nsw.gov.au.
