The Port Stephens community is rallying together to help Australia's drought affected farmers. Here are just some of the events and campaigns that have been running in the Port Stephens area:
Farmers Relief Port Stephens Charity Weekend
Join your local community throughout Port Stephens on Saturday and Sunday – 8 and 9 September to raise some much needed funds.
Here in Port Stephens we are well-known for coming together to support those in need, and right now our NSW farmers need our help. Port Stephens sporting clubs are partnering with Council and the local community to provide relief to our farmers who are currently experiencing crippling drought throughout rural NSW. Rotary Club
- Annual Golf Day - October 12
Nelson Bay Rotary Club will donate proceeds from its annual golf day. - Bunnings BBQ - August 11
Salamander Bay Rotary Club are holding a Bunnings BBQ, with the funds raised going towards the national campaign. - Drought relief fund
Rotary Australia's World Community Services has established a Drought Relief Fund. Find out more about the 2018 Drought Relief Fund for Australian Farmers.
Lions Club
- Bunnings BBQ - August 12
Soldiers' Point Lions Club is holding a Bunnings BBQ, with funds being donated to the national organisation's Need for Feed disaster relief fund. - Medowie Bale Out the Drought - August 12
This has been a month-long campaign that will come to an end on Sunday, August 12 at the Bull n Bush Hotel. From 10am there will be entertainment, food and activities for the whole family as well as a huge raffle and auction. The campaign has raised nearly $30,000. All money raised will go to Rural Aid.
Irrawang High School
The School us running a month-long Buy a Bale campaign for Hunter Valley farmers. There will be a weekly school-wide event throughout August to raise funds and a trivia night on September 14.
Buy a Bale of Hay
Through the Buy a Bale of Hay organisation you are able to make a donation to Hunter Valley farmers to assist with purchasing hay, water, groceries, pet food, non-perishable food items or diesel to carry hay.
We Care Road Trip
This road trip to help support our farmers in dire need of drought relief. Your seat price goes directly to the charities which are on the ground helping our farmers. The road trip will also give us the opportunity to inject some much needed funds into the towns we visit.
NOTE: You need to book and pay for your accommodation directly with the providers. Seats are limited so get in quick!

- Who can join the bus? - Get a group together, or come on your own! EVERYONE is welcome, male, female, young, old!
- Where does the bus go? Newcastle > Merriwa > Gulargambone > Coonabarabran (overnight with a special Farmers Meet and Greet plus Live Entertainment) > Willow Tree > Newcastle

Once your donation is made, email your receipt to theabells@optusnet.com.au to secure your seat. When received, you will be sent a full itinerary confirming your booking and containing details of departure times, pick up points, dining options and a list of accommodation in Coonabarabran.
The dos and don'ts to donating
When donating to any relief fund, it is important to consider:
- give to many, not to a few
- give to a registered charity
- it isn't only the farmers who need help, but also those in the wider farming community
- try to consider those who don't ask for help
- check out charity credentials
