Anna Bay Cemetery Extension
Port Stephens Council will soon be undertaking works to extend the existing Anna Bay cemetery at Nelson Bay Road, Anna Bay.
The existing Anna Bay lawn cemetery at Nelson Bay Road Anna Bay offers lawn, garden and wall interment options for the local community. The current site at Anna Bay is close to capacity and additional space for interments is required.
Consequently a Development Application, 16-2017-482-1, was submitted. This application was approved with conditions in September 2017 to allow room for expansion.
The existing cemetery occupies Lot 100, DP 1131285 and the planned extension will now include Lot 311 DP 753204. This lot lies directly to the South behind the existing cemetery site.
Tree clearing
Part of the extension of the new cemetery involves the removal of vegetation on Lot 311 DP 753204. The removal of vegetation was approved through the development application process and an ecological consultant or arborist is required to be on site whilst the trees are removed.
The tree clearing for this project is expected to begin soon with these works taking 2-3 days to complete.
Construction works
Once the site is cleared construction works for Stage 1 will begin and will include construction of concrete beams and subsurface irrigation.
The existing gravel access road will also be extended.
Stage 1 is scheduled to be completed by June 2019. Subsequent stages will be completed as funding becomes available. The site map is shown below.
Timing
- Tree clearing to occur mid December 2018.
- Construction works to begin in early 2019.
- Stage 1 completed by June 2019.
The existing lawn cemetery will remain open whilst these works are carried out.
