6 days until Medowie’s 7 Day Makeover
The final countdown is on to Medowie’s 7 Day Makeover, which starts this Saturday with a 2-day planning workshop at Medowie Community Centre before works kick off on Monday 10 May.
The process will be facilitated by internationally renowned placemaker David Engwicht.
“We have spent 25 years perfecting techniques to help people think outside the box. Even people who believe they don’t have a creative bone in their body suddenly find themselves generating fantastic ideas. It is a fun, hands-on process,” David said.
“Everyone is welcome to attend the planning workshop this weekend on either or both days. Come along and help us select the spaces to be made over, generate ideas and form teams to deliver elements of the makeover.
“To help us celebrate all of the amazing mums in our community, we’ll be having a special Mother’s Day event on Sunday 9 May with free coffee for mums and free food for all as part of the planning days.”
Makeover advocate and Central Ward Councillor Chris Doohan is calling on people from across Port Stephens to participate.
“I’ve seen what other towns, including our own Anna Bay, have achieved in 7 days on very limited budgets and I know we can do better! I’d love to see our whole community get involved,” Cr Doohan said.
“Whatever your age or ability — regardless of whether you can swing a hammer — there’s a role for you. We’ll need all of the helping hands we can get! It’s all about working together for a better Medowie,” he said.
“We’re also seeking donations to help us reach our fundraising goal of $35,000 — we’re almost there but need a little extra help! These funds will go directly towards the makeover and any extra funds will be invested back into future makeover projects for Medowie.
“We’re expecting a big turnout so just a reminder to drive carefully throughout the week and follow the reduced speed limits to help us keep everyone safe,” he said.
Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer said the Makeover was all about creating better places for people.
“The 7 Day Makeover program empowers communities to improve their town centres to create a place where people want to come and spend time and money. That’s a key part of our Council’s commitment to creating a strong economy, vibrant communities and active investment,” he said.
“I’m excited to get my hands dirty again and work with the community to create an even better Medowie,” Mayor Palmer said.
