$1 million to transform Apex Park and Robinson Reserve

Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer today joined Port Stephens Duty MLC, Catherine Cusack, to announce that Council has successfully applied for $1 million in funding to transform recreational facilities at Anna Bay and Nelson Bay.

The NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund will see Anna Bay’s Robinson Reserve and Nelson Bay’s Apex Park completely revamped into recreational precincts that the whole region can enjoy.

Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer says this funding is transformational for these communities.

“This is a huge investment by the NSW Government in Anna Bay and Nelson Bay - this funding will enable Council to build the infrastructure that these communities truly deserve,” Mayor Palmer said.

“Anna Bay’s Robinson Reserve will receive $700,000 to construct a recreational precinct, including a new playground, skate park, Aboriginal Place interpretative signage, BBQ facilities, accessible amenities, native landscaping and supporting park infrastructure – as set out in the Birubi Point Aboriginal Place Master Plan.

“A further $300,000 will go to revitalising Apex Park in Nelson Bay to improve pathways and connections and better cater for events, as set out in the Apex Park Master Plan. This is yet another endorsement of Council’s Nelson Bay Next campaign to drive renewal in the Bay.

“These projects have been high on the communities’ wish list for some time, and it’s fantastic that we’ll now be able to deliver improved outdoor spaces for everyone to enjoy,” he added.

The Stronger Country Communities fund is part of the NSW Government’s $1.3 billion Regional Growth Fund, designed to improve economic growth and productivity with investment in regional communities.
