Port Stephens Seed Library helping local pollinators flourish

Help local pollinators flourish this spring with the Port Stephens Seed Library.

Did you know Port Stephens Libraries have a free Seed Library, where you can pick up some seeds, beautify your garden, and help local pollinators flourish?

Local bees have been recently impacted by Varroa Mite, resulting in their euthanasia, and devastating flow-on effects to local food farmers, producers, and even our own backyards.

Bees and other pollinators such as butterflies and birds love flowers that are brightly coloured, and high in pollen and nectar. Our Seed Library has plenty of marigold, nigella, sunflower, red daisy, cosmos and salvia seeds ready for planting and all for free!

We also have beneficial herb seeds such as coriander, basil and dill that will invite pollinators to your garden when they are in flower.

So far we've loaned over 1,400 seed packets to Port Stephens locals!

Once residents have reaped the benefit of their seed harvest, we encourage them to consider returning some of their seeds to the library to share with others.

Seeds can be returned to Raymond Terrace, Tomaree or the Mobile library.

All we ask is that the seeds are fully removed from the plant, clean, and identified as to what type they are. See Library staff for donation forms.
