Council was successful in receiving a $130,000 grant from Transport NSW to complete the upgrades, which will see 73 bus stops upgraded and 3 new shelters added.

Civil Projects Engineer Rick Mackenzie says the upgrades will be taking place across the local government area from this week until December 2018.

“These important upgrades will improve the quality of many Port Stephens bus stops, and most importantly, make them more accessible for our community,” Mr Mackenzie said.

“We will be installing new concrete slabs with tactile indicators, which are designed to improve accessibility by helping people to board the bus safely,” he said.

“Successful funding from previous years has already resulted in upgrades to stops in Medowie, Raymond Terrace, Nelson Bay, Salt Ash, Anna Bay, One Mile and Boat Harbour.

“This time around, stops in Mallabula, Lemon Tree Passage, Salamander Bay, Soldiers Point, and Corlette are all slated for upgrades.”

There will be no disruption to bus services as a result of the works. However, temporary bus stops may be erected when needed.
