Project description
The upgrade to Tomaree Road is funded by the $10M NSW state election commitment to improve roads around Port Stephens.
The road rehabilitation of Tomaree Road Shoal Bay will be from Verona Road to Messines Street.
- Kerb and gutter replacement where required and minor driveway adjustments where new kerb and gutter are constructed.
- Road pavement reconstruction.
- Minor drainage repairs.
Kerb ramps will be constructed as part of the project for a future footpath on the western side of Tomaree Road. Footpath will not be constructed as part of this project.
During construction, Tomaree Road will be closed with detours in place. Access will be maintained for residents within the work zone and essential services such as emergency services, mail and parcel delivery and waste collection.
During construction, vehicular access to properties in the work zone will be restricted for a period of time to allow the pavement and kerb replacement. Our construction crew will notify affected residents when access will be restricted.
The intersections of Verona Road and Tomaree Road and Messines and Tomaree Road will need to be closed to allow works to extend into these intersections towards the end of the project.
Further correspondence regarding traffic arrangements will be distributed closer to that stage of works.
Buses will be detoured around the work site via Fingal Street, Rigney Street and Messines Street. The bus stops on Tomaree Road in the work zone will be closed during construction.

Project Updates
19 February 2024
Next week we will be commencing the next sections of road reconstruction along Tomaree Road, Shoal Bay, immediately to the north of the previous construction project undertaken in 2021. This project will be funded from the $10M Special Purpose Grant, and will deliver 450m of pavement reconstruction and minor drainage repairs. Works are scheduled to be completed in April.

Pavement subbase layer is being trimmed and compacted this week ahead of progressing with base layer. Primer spray seal is scheduled for mid-next week.
