About Port Stephens

Port Stephens Local Government Area (LGA) is located at the boundary of the mid north and central coasts of New South Wales (Latitude South: 32'43', Longitude East: 152'9'), and covers an area of 979sq km.
It is bounded by the Pacific Ocean to the east, Paterson River to the west, Hunter River to the south and Karuah River to the North.

The most easterly peninsula, Tomaree is characterised by pristine waterways, spectacular scenery, unspoilt national parks and abundant wildlife making our area a major tourist destination.

The adjoining Tilligerry peninsula is best known for its koala population, idyllic waterfront and peaceful atmosphere.

The famous Stockton Beach sand dunes known as the Golden Bight extends 32km south from the Tomaree Peninsula to the mouth of the Hunter River at Newcastle. The Pacific Highway provides a gateway to Port Stephens passing through the main township of Raymond Terrace where Council's Administration Centre is located. To the west lies the picturesque rural hinterland.
