Recently Port Stephens Council undertook works to repair damaged pavement and address underlying drainage issues on approximately 150 metres of Ferodale Rd, Medowie, between Peppertree Close and Medowie Road. These works included the replacement of damaged pavement, installation of subsoil drains and the resurfacing of the area in asphalt. These works were completed in early May 2023.

Following completion of these works Council has observed premature failures emerging. Further investigation has indicated a significant issue as a result of water present in the pavement and sub grades. The supersaturated pavement materials have degraded quickly under traffic resulting in the visible failures. Council has since become aware of a nearby leak in a water service running parallel with the road. This leak is currently being addressed through the replacement of the water service.

In order to ensure the road is repaired with minimal risk of failure, we must wait until the water main has been replaced and the pavement allowed to dry out. Until the road can be properly repaired, the pavement will undergo temporary maintenance to make safe.

Council will assign resources and schedule works to rectify fully as soon as conditions allow.

Signage, traffic delineators and pedestrian holding rails have been completed. Installation of tactile indicators at the pedestrian island remains the only outstanding task on this project.

Pavement rehabilitation project: upgrade the road infrastructure along Ferodale Road to improve safety.

  • Re-surfacing Ferodale Rd from Peppertree Rd toward Medowie Rd (the roundabout) and upgrading the pavement
  • Installation of new Pedestrian Refuge Island
  • New linemarking along Ferodale Road and installation of chevron from the Pedestrian Refuge Island toward the roundabout
  • Lighting upgrade at the existing Pedestrian Refuge Island

These works will commence late February and will be coordinated to minimise disruption to Medowie Community Centre, Woolworths and residents as much possible.
