The stage area in Stockton Street, Nelson Bay is receiving a facelift. New urban furniture, drinking fountain and planter boxes were installed this week with further lighting and landscaping planned for next week.

Project description

Upgrades to the stage on Stockton Street

As part of Streets as Shared Spaces, the Stockton Street Stage at Nelson Bay will receive a makeover to strengthen visual and physical connection and integration with Magnus Street. Upgrades to the stage area also give us the chance to continue to realise the Public Domain Plan vision.

The improvements include:

  • removal of sections of hedging to allow a better visual connection with Magnus Street
  • Removal or modification of fencing to make the space easy to walk and move through
  • Adding new furniture, lighting and new landscaping/planters to make the space more attractive at all times of the day.

Construction is planned to be carried out at some point between October and December and when it begins is expected to only take a few weeks.

Pedestrian Crossing upgrade

The existing Stockton Street traffic signals will be converted to allow pedestrian scramble and the crossing will be widened.
