Opening Hours:
During the sailing season (1st October to 30th April) the Centre is open (weather permitting)

Wednesday,Thursday & Friday to accommodate the Sailability Program, of a Saturday the gates are open for general sailing & member racing. Gates are open of a Sunday for picnics only & an electric BBQ is available for free use.

** Special activities can be arranged for community groups outside the hours indicated.

From May to September, the Centre is CLOSED.

Grahamstown Sailing & Aquatic Club (GS&AC) is the managing body for the Grahamstown Aquatic Centre - Madden Park.

The main group using the Centre is Sailability Port Stephens is responsible for organizing all on water activities & its aim to make sailing inexpensive and available for all. The Hansa Dinghies can be sailed by people with or without disabilities. Their other sailing craft are available for sailing but are not as suitable for people with physical disabilities.

The Dam is a vital element in Newcastle's water supply. Hunter Water therefore imposes strict restrictions on users, including no swimming and limits on permitted sailing areas.

Sailability Port Stephens runs sailing programs for schoolchildren and adults from Day Care Groups on:

Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during summer school terms during the sailing season. We welcome VOLUNTEERS to help with the programs. It also runs "Introduction to Sail" classes during the October, January and April school holidays.

The membership fee to join SPS is $40 initially & then $30 per annum (this includes mandatory $5 membership of GS&AC).

Members are not charged sailing fees and can compete in club races on Saturday afternoons during the sailing season and sail at other times when the Centre is open.

Casual sailors

May bring their own craft.

Please note: that anyone entering the property is to first proceed to the office sign in and make presence known to supervisor (if recovery boat is not on the water there is no on water activity) The Club's sailing boats may be made available after a briefing session and sailing instruction. As Hunter Water imposes strict restrictions, casual sailors MUST be briefed by SPS personnel before launching their craft.

Hunter Water and SPS Recovery Boats are the only fuelled boats excepted for use on the Dam.

  • The Horizons Model Yacht Club sails radio-controlled model yachts on Tuesday mornings.
