Stand Up for Poetry — online event

Stand Up for Poetry
Poetry and Spoken Word 101 Online Workshop with Gillian Swain

Stand Up for Poetry is presented by Port Stephens, Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Maitland Libraries.

An exciting series of poetry workshops, panels, spoken word showcases and slam heats across the Hunter region in 2020.

For beginners and the more experienced poets to learn, write, perform, listen, enjoy and prepare for the Australian Poetry Slam 2020.

Join Poet Gillian Swain in a Poetry and Spoken Word 101 workshop online via Zoom. Participants will be sent an invite via email once they registered.

Gillian Swain has a poetry collection “My Skin its own Sky” (Flying Islands Press 2019) and shared first place with Magdalena Ball in the MacLean’s Booksellers Award (Grieve Project 2019). She was the curator of all things poetry at the Indie Writers Festival ‘IF Maitland’ in February 2020.

At this workshop for newer poets, we will explore and discover ways to extend poetry writing skills and practice. During this session, poets will have the opportunity to experience various writing styles and learn tips for keeping inspiration alive and well. Participants are welcome to bring some of their own poetry if they’d like to. There will be an opportunity to discuss current work as well as writing on the day.

Bookings are essential.
