Drainage works in Nelson Bay Cemetery to begin soon

Project background

Port Stephens Council is pleased to advise that they will soon be starting drainage works at Nelson Bay Cemetery on Stockton Street, Nelson Bay.

Project details

The existing open drainage swale which runs through the cemetery has suffered from erosion over time. This erosion has made access around Nelson Bay Cemetery difficult for visitors.

Council has undertaken mitigation measures to help slow both the flow of stormwater through this drainage swale and accompanying erosion. Despite these mititgation measures, difficulties with access around the cemetery remain.

Council is now planning to overcome these access issues by piping most of the open drainage swale and filling around the new pipes with sand and soil.

We are taking the opportunity to use excess and and soil excavated from the roadworks at Tomaree Road, Shoal Bay as fill for this project.

Works are scheduled to begin mid June 2019 and be completed by August 2019.
