Port Stephens Council is planning to construct a new multi-sport court on Vardon Road, Fern Bay.

Listed as an action item in the draft Fern Bay and North Stockton Strategy this project is designed to help meet the recreational needs of the growing community of Fern Bay. The project is funded through development contributions generated in the Fern Bay area.

The location of the new multi-sport court has been carefully selected to be as accessible to the Fern Bay community and compliment existing recreation and community facilities at Vardon Road, Fern Bay. Please see layout map from April's Newsletter.
The position of the court within the site has been selected to avoid the need for vegetation removal and adversely impacting on Hunter Water land and assets.

Project details

The multi sport court will be 15 metres long and 11 metres wide. It will be fenced with black plastic coated chainlink wire. The fence will be 3 metres high on the ends and only 1 metre high along the sides. The stepped style of fencing helps to improve the aesthetics and appeal of the court whilst still retaining some fencing to keep balls on the court.

The court will be marked for soccer, handball, half-court basketball, half court netball and also includes a hit-up wall.

There will be new concrete paths connecting the court to the existing footpath network within the site.

Council is presently undertaking early planning for this project and are expected to begin construction in mid 2019.
