Port Stephens Fellowship of Australian Writers
The Fellowship of Australians Writers is unique in that established writers are committed to nurture and develop new writing talent.
There are now Fellowships in many states, with nearly thirty Branches in New South Wales including a branch in Port Stephens.
The Port Stephens branch has monthly meetings at the Gymea Room in the Tomaree Library on the third Thursday of the month from 10 - 2.30pm, February to November. Our group has writing workshops and shares ideas and works towards special goals including writing books and making DVDs.
Our first book written by members was Write Waves 1 printed in 2005, followed by Write Waves 2 in 2006. From the beginning we have been supported by Port Stephens Council and we had the pleasure of having our new mayor Ryan Palmer to launch our most recent book in October 2017.
In 2009 we produced a screenplay Inlet Port Stephens with members reading their poems before a camera. This film was shown in Port Stephens Council and Nelson Bay Cinema and was a great success. Time and Tide was written in 2011 to explore our Port Stephens environment and to highlight contributions of some of our special local residents. Anything Goes was written in 2012 to celebrate the ten year anniversary of our group.
