Probus Club of Raymond Terrace - Men

Probus is an association of retired and semi-retired people who join together in clubs, with the aim of providing regular opportunities for members to keep their minds active, expand their interests and enjoy the fellowship of new friends.

Membership is open to any man of good character.

The emphasis is on the clubs being simple in structure and free from the constraints and obligations of service clubs, involving members at minimal cost, while providing the opportunity for extension of acquaintances and interests.

Activities normally fall into two parts:

  1. A formal meeting on the third Friday of each month between 10am - 12pm. This comprises a club business session, a morning tea break followed by a guest speaker and/or a discussion on a topic of mutual interest.
  2. Outings between meetings to places or organisations of interest to members including theatre, social and sporting occasions. These may include overnight trips or tours.

Probus Clubs are required to adhere to a basic set of rules of operation in order to preserve their integrity and reputation. These rules include:

  1. Clubs are non-political and non-sectarian.
  2. They are non profit making and non fundraising.
  3. Presidents can only hold office for one year, although in mitigating circumstances the time limit may be extended to two years. Annual changes provide for a variety of leadership.

Any man interested in becoming an active member and contributing to activities is invited to make contact.
