Economic Development

The Economic Development Unit (EDU) of Council plays a leadership role in building economic capacity in the Port Stephens local government area including improvements to the investment climate and shaping a business enabling environment to enhance competitiveness, job creation and incomes.

EDU champions the strategic direction of Council’s Economic Development Policy (PDF 60KB) to achieve long term growth and prosperity identified in the Economic Development Strategy (PDF 6MB).

With a keen eye on the local economy as well as broader macroeconomic issues, the Economic Development Unit provides a range of programs and services to promote a sustainable and diversified economy. This includes engagement, facilitation, support and activity in the following areas:

  • investment attraction and job creation;
  • place management and activation;
  • business communication and events;
  • economic data and advice, and
  • business and industry support, growth and development.
