Tomaree Events Strategy 2007

Last modified: July 2, 2008 - 2:08 PM

Port Stephens Council, in conjunction with the Tomaree Event Forum and in partnership with the Department of State and Regional Development, engaged a consultant, Janelle Gardner, to develop a strategy and identify opportunities for the development of the events industry on the Tomaree Peninsula.

Events allow a community to come alive. They provide the opportunity for a destination to showcase its tourism experience and create a dynamic industry with a diverse range of economic and social benefits.

Port Stephens is a seasonal tourism destination, which apart from placing economic strain on business, leaves a surplus in capacity and resources throughout the majority of the year.

The Tomaree Events Forum was established in 2006 as a result of discussions between Port Stephens Council and private business representatives who came together to identify the opportunities for increasing revenues during these off peak periods.

It was recognised that although considerable efforts had been seen in the development of key tourism segments there was still an opportunity for Port Stephens to target new markets and position itself as the key event destination in regional NSW.
