This plan has been established to provide the people of Karuah with strategies and actions to mitigate the impacts of the Bypass on Karuah and contribute to the town's social and economic sustainability. The Plan was developed in partnership with Port Stephens and Great Lakes Councils, the Department of State & Regional Development, the NSW Roads & Traffic Authority (RTA) and representatives of the Karuah community. Port Stephens Council coordinated the Plan under the direction of a steering committee referred to as the Karuah Community and Economic Redevelopment Committee. The objective of the Plan is to establish visionary strategies that will enhance the opportunities for Karuah to be an active, prosperous and healthy community beyond the Bypass. The Plan provides direction toward the establishment of long-term socially and economically sustainable goals for Karuah. Furthermore the 'Plan' identifies options, actions and measures that support the community's attributes, values and aspirations. The Plan has been established to provide the community of Karuah with strategies and actions that can be developed to mitigate the impacts of the Bypass and contribute to social and economic sustainability. The Plan provides a framework to strengthen neighbourhood and community networks and to coordinate the planning and timely provision of community and social services to Karuah residents while contributing to the town's economic stability and future growth.
