Boost for Tilligerry Festival - Media ReleaseLast modified: October 23, 2008 - 10:40 AM
The 2008 Tilligerry Festival has been given a significant boost with a $5000 grant awarded through Business Port Stephens, Community Economic Development funding. One of the key activities of Business Port Stephens is to work in partnership with local communities to implement Community Economic Development projects across the Local Government Area. Speaking today, Economic Development Officer, Brendan Brooks said the funding was designed to assist local business communities to increase economic activity. “The purpose of the funding is two-fold,” he said. “Firstly it provides a stimulus for business activity and secondly it assists organisations to access additional grant funding.” “This funding will predominantly be used on projects for the retail and service centres, small business sector and ‘Main-street’ business communities.” The Tilligerry festival, in its 4th year, will be held on the Tilligerry Peninsular on Saturday 15 November. Tilligerry Community Association co-ordinator, Kayla Brady said hopes were high for a highly successful event in 2008. “We believe this additional funding will go a long way to ensuring the success of this year’s event, assisting us to provide the necessary entertainment and exposure required,” she said. “Local clubs and community organisations will be out in force to let visitors and residents alike know what’s available on the Peninsula.” “Highlights will include a sail past and Blessing of the Fleet, and prizes for the best decorated craft.” “The day will culminates with a spectacular fireworks display over the water from 7.30pm,” “The festival will also include food stalls, arts and craft stalls, and a community tent where local organisations such as Probus, the local Coastguard, Tilligerry Habitat and the Koala Preservation Society will be represented.” “Local businesses are also welcome to set up displays,” Kayla added.
