Australia Day nominations open - Media ReleaseLast modified: October 22, 2008 - 11:44 AM
Nominations have been called for Port Stephens 2008 Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year. The awards will form the centre piece of Council’s 2009 Australia Day ceremony at Riverside Park, Raymond Terrace. Speaking today, Port Stephens Council Deputy Mayor, Bob Westbury said the event provided a great opportunity to acknowledge those residents who had made substantial contributions to their community. “We are very lucky in Port Stephens to have a large group of people who work incredibly hard for the local community, young and old, and many of them on a volunteer basis,” he said. “We know that these individuals are not doing this work for recognition, but I believe it is incredibly important that we do show our appreciation to help foster our special community spirit in the area.” “Importantly, there is also an opportunity to acknowledge the community event of the year, which has always been keenly contested, and with good reason – Port Stephens is home to a host of events that I’m sure are the envy of other local government areas.” Nominations for all awards close 5.00pm 21 November 2008. Application forms can be accessed from;
Council’s administration office, Adelaide Street Raymond Terrace
