Port Stephens elects new Mayor - Media ReleaseLast modified: September 30, 2008 - 8:08 PM
Port Stephens’ Council has this evening elected a new Mayor at their first meeting since the poll was declared last Thursday. Cr Bruce MacKenzie who has extensive experience over two decades as a Councillor in Port Stephens was elected by his colleagues, seven votes to five. Cr Bob Westbury was elected Deputy Mayor, also seven votes to five. Cr Westbury is commencing his second term a Councillor after being initially elected in 2004. Speaking today Cr MacKenzie said he was proud to assume the position of Mayor and looked forward to working to achieve some key objectives in the coming term. “I campaigned strongly on a platform of bring about significant change to Council and I intend to achieve that,” he said. “I believe my experience and my determination are assets that will ensure success in the role.” “I would like to thank my fellow Councillors for their show of support and trust that we can work together during the term to achieve some real results.”
Unlike Newcastle and Lake Macquarie Councils, Port Stephens’ Mayor is elected by Councillors on an annual basis. Contact details |
