Kevin Sheedy to attend Port Stephens Sports Star Awards - Media Release

Last modified: September 5, 2008 - 9:20 AM

Port Stephens Council announces today that AFL Legend, Mr Kevin Sheedy will be guest speaker at the 2008 annual Port Stephens Sports Star Awards.

Kevin Sheedy was the coach of AFL club Essendon, and a former player for Richmond. He holds the AFL record for the most games combined as a player and a coach.

In 2007, Sheedy parted ways with the Essendon Football Club ending 27 years as senior coach and received a standing ovation as he left the field for the last time.  Sheedy is an innovator and has been at the forefront of many changes to the game in the last 25 years.  His opinion is always sought on any matter concerned with football.

His passion for coaching continues and Sheedy is currently working in an ambassadorial role with the AFL.

Port Stephens Sports Star Awards recognises, rewards and promotes the outstanding achievements of Port Stephens athletes, sports administrators, coaches, officials and others involved in the promotion of sport’s ideals at a gala dinner event.

The event will be held on Thursday 6th November at Nelson Bay Diggers starting at 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start.

All proceeds from the evening go toward the Sports Star Junior Development Scheme.
