Port Stephens Visitor Information Centre brings home gong from tourism awards - Media release

Last modified: September 2, 2008 - 12:19 AM

Port Stephens Visitor Information Centre (VIC) has this week been named the best in its category at the Mid-North Coast Tourism Awards.

The prestigious awards, held at Nelson Bay Diggers on Monday evening, cover the area from Port Stephens to Coffs Harbour and deal with all aspects of the thriving coastal tourism industry.

Port Stephens dominated the night, which was attended by over 200 industry leaders, winning 11 of the 22 trophies on offer.

Port Stephens Tourism Development Coordinator Neville Deuis said today, the acknowledgement was reward for hard work over a long period of time.

“We believe the Port Stephens VIC sets the benchmark for this type of service,” he said.

“From my point of view, innovation has been the key to our success.”

“Combined with the excellent staff and volunteers, we are able to offer residents and visitors a high quality experience.”

“Tourism on the mid-north coast is a major economic driver, and the industry is ultra competitive in this part of the world, so the fact we have been named best visitor and information service is a real coup for Port Stephens.”
