Port Stephens Council puts creatures under the spotlight - Media releaseLast modified: September 2, 2008 - 12:00 AM
Port Stephens Council will celebrate Biodiversity Month in September by offering the local community the opportunity to participate in a night time spotlight walk in their area. The initiative, called ‘Creatures of the Night,’ will be held in five locations across Port Stephens and provide participants with the opportunity to get up close to a myriad of nocturnal species. Biodiversity Month is held nationally in September each year and aims to promote the importance of protecting, conserving and improving diversity in the wild across the nation and around the world. Speaking today, Environmental Education Officer Melinda Anderson said these events provide an ideal opportunity to learn more about their local area. “Port Stephens really does have a wide variety of native animals, many of which are nocturnal requiring us to head out at night to view them,” she said. “Apart from an enjoyable spring night out, those who join us will learn plenty about Australian fauna and the threats they face.” “There are five spotlighting walks across the local government area, so there should be one close by for everyone.” The dates and locations of the Creatures of the Night spotlight tours are as follows:
3 September, Tilligerry Habitat, Tanilba Bay
• All walks are FREE, start at 6.30pm and go for approximately 90 minutes Contact details |
