Marine Discovery in Port Stephens - Media ReleaseLast modified: August 4, 2008 - 3:15 PM
Port Stephens Council will host two of Australia’s most coveted underwater artists with the next installment of its popular Marine Discovery Series. Multi award-winning filmmaker George Evatt and eminent marine scientist and photographer Dave Harasti will present two fascinating topics at the Tomaree Library and Community Centre on Thursday 14 August 2008. George Evatt’s much lauded documentaries have screened internationally on National Geographic Channel and in Australia on the Seven, Nine, ABC and SBS networks. His presentation focuses on the coastal waters of NSW where up to 90% of sea creatures are unique to Southern Australia. Attendees will meet some of the rarest sharks, sea slugs and fish on the planet. Dave Harasti, who has previously won the Australasian Digital Photographer of the year, will meanwhile give a unique insight into the shy and secretive world of the seahorse. Three species of Seahorse, the only animal on earth where the male of the species gives birth, are found in the Port Stephens area. The presentations, which run from 6.30pm until 8.00pm on 14 August, include refreshments.
