Raymond Terrace to chart new future - Media releaseLast modified: July 29, 2008 - 4:24 PM
Port Stephens Council, in partnership with the NSW Department of State and Regional Development, will be seeking to develop a vitally needed strategic plan for the Raymond Terrace community when they hold a planning workshop on Monday 4 August. The workshop will bring together voices from business, community services and sporting organisations from Raymond Terrace and surrounding areas to agree on a community vision, identify the major issues affecting the community and plan achievable projects to meet local goals. The participants in the workshop will also develop action strategies for projects and identify resource needs so the priorities set by the community can be implemented. The outcomes from the workshop will be formed into a strategic plan by Port Stephens Council’s Economic Development Unit on behalf of the community. Speaking today, Economic Development Manager Lesley Morris said the workshop would be used to map a new way forward for the region. “A strategy of this nature is something I believe will focus the energies of the Raymond Terrace community in the right direction,” she said. “We will be asking participants to propose their ideas in areas such as business development, cultural and community issues, marketing and promotion and youth and education.” “From there we hope to be able to form some clear priorities. This will form the basis of the new strategy.” “We are also hopeful that once formulated, the Raymond Terrace strategy document will provide us with the foundations on which we can apply for grant funding and seek other opportunities to address our key objectives.
