Pit stop for Dads and kids with bikes, trikes and tot rods - Media ReleaseLast modified: July 18, 2008 - 4:44 PM
A joint initiative between Gan Gan Family Centre and Port Stephens Council, Growing Spaces is playing a key role in providing child-friendly activities for children in Port Stephens, with their latest event ‘Dads, Kids and Bikes’ day proving an outstanding success. A host of families took part in the event at Anna Bay recently, which was jointly organised by Growing Spaces and ‘The Shed’ at Salamander. Speaking today, Growing Spaces Coordinator Jodie Cox said the wind was no deterrent to the young participants. “The families that attended had a fantastic time,” she said “The day was planned to recognise and encourage the vital role fathers play in the lives of their children. Ty Douglas and his children Tamsyn and Cooper (see attached photos) were just one family that took advantage of the event.” “Everyone who attended were treated to a sausage sizzle and prizes which included helmets, bike horns and even a bicycle, kindly donated by The Shed. There was also the offer of free advice on bike maintenance.” Growing Spaces Coordinator Jodie Cox and Gan Gan Family Centre Facilitator Jacqui Boyers were also available to provide information on family services and resources in the area.
Growing Spaces will continue to offer free play sessions in the park next term for children under school age and their carers. Their new venues will be at Soldiers Point and Bagnalls Beach.
