Council gets serious with Tree Vandalism - Media releaseLast modified: May 9, 2008 - 6:02 PM
The draft tree and vegetation vandalism policy has been developed in light of increasing tree vandalism that is being experienced across the Port Stephens. This is particularly apparent in the coastal zone where there are conflicts between water views and vegetation. Port Stephens Council is not alone with this problem and the policy was developed by a regional working group facilitated by Hunter Councils. It is hoped that a consistent approach across the Hunter region will get a better result than a stand alone approach. Natural Resources Coordinator Sally Whitelaw said that Council wants to hear from the community about their concerns and views on this topic and any suggestions they may have about the draft policy before it gets finalised. “The policy was in development before the recent events at Boat Harbour however it has definitely been a prompt for us to get the policy finalised,” Ms Whitelaw said. Submissions close on the 13 June and one of easiest ways to have a say is to log on to the discussion page at the independent website www.bangthetable.com/treevandalism You can leave comments and get involved in discussions with fellow residents. “It’s a really easy way for people to voice their thoughts and I would encourage people to log on and have their say,” Ms Whitelaw said.
