First Tilligerry Catchment Committee Meeting Held - Media ReleaseLast modified: April 7, 2008 - 2:48 PM
The inaugural meeting of the Tilligerry Catchment Committee was held yesterday, Thursday 3 March at Port Stephens Council’s administration building. The committee seeks to bring together a myriad of government departments and community groups to oversee management of the Tilligerry catchment area. Community applications for the committee were over subscribed and the selection was undertaken by an independent panel from the Premiers Department, the Catchment Management Authority, Port Stephens Council and NSW Farmers. Speaking today, councillor and committee member Steve Tucker said having all the key stakeholders in the one room provided an ideal forum. “The committee has some very important tasks to get through, starting with reviewing submissions and finalising the draft Tilligerry Catchment plan.” “Once that’s completed the committee will provide a forum to drive the implementation of the plan and provide feedback to the wider community.” “I know that some work has already started in the catchment with several farmers taking advantage of funding from the State and Federal governments to fence off areas of the creek and drains and undertake revegetation activities.”
“Council has more funds available and is keen to hear from any other property owners in the catchment that are interested in undertaking works,” Councillor Tucker said. Contact details |
