Council Roadwork at Boat Harbour - Media ReleaseLast modified: April 2, 2008 - 4:36 PM
Port Stephens Council will undertake improvement works at Blanch Street, Boat Harbour from today. Included will be curb and guttering, footpath construction and the installation of road drainage pipes. These works will necessitate the removal of eight Banksia trees in the immediate area. In line with Council policy, these Banksias will be replaced, at a ratio of 2:1, by mature trees. Speaking today, Group Manager Facilities and Services Mike Trigar said Port Stephens Council’s strong stance on tree preservation was at the heart of the re-planting strategy. “I think Council has made it very clear in recent times that we are determined to see our natural flora preserved,” he said. “The roadworks in Blanch Street have been earmarked for some years in our forward works program and will significantly improve the local amenity.” “I know the local community is very eager for this work to finally proceed.” “Within the next week we will have replaced the eight Banksias with 16 mature trees. These trees are six years old and will measure around three metres in height.” Mr Trigar said the roadworks were expected to take 12 weeks to complete. Contact details |
